If you're like most Members of the Peloton community, the convenience of having a Bike, Bike+, Tread, or Row in your living room means you're probably working out now more than ever. Maybe you share your Peloton with your partner and kids, making your entire family's wellness a top priority. Whether you ride alone or with loved ones, keeping your Peloton clean is the best way for everyone to maintain a healthy lifestyle

In addition to providing how-to videos online, we recently turned to the experts (you!) on how to clean your Peloton. From how to clean Peloton handlebars and screen, to what cleaning products to use—and how often, our Members share all their tricks for keeping their Pelotons in tip-top shape.

What To Use To Clean Your Peloton

Cleaning your Peloton Bike/Bike+, Row, or Tread is super simple, but it does take some specific products to get the job done effectively and without being too harsh on your equipment.

Forget scrubbing or strong chemicals, you don’t need abrasive cleaning products to maintain a hygienic at-home gym—and, they’re specifically not good for use on Peloton equipment. “I have a Peloton and also work in their showroom and we clean the bike frame with Wise, a stainless steel cleaner, with a microfiber towel,” says Katie B. “Use Windex wipes for the screen and use a microfiber towel to wipe after.”

According to many of our Members, one of the best products you can use to clean your Bike or Tread is actually just a few bucks at any local drugstore. “When Peloton delivered and set up my bike they told me to clean it with baby wipes,” says Dana C. “When they were done setting up my bike, they cleaned it with baby wipes as well.”

For more robust cleaning—especially after a sweaty ride with Cody or a run on your Tread—try using Clorox wipes. “I keep a container of Clorox wipes in a basket next to the bike with my shoes and other supplies and wipe the whole thing down after each workout,” says Merisue P. “We had to do this at the gym so it seemed like a good idea.” Never use Clorox wipes on the touchscreen though—more on this shortly.

“The showroom I went to uses OdoBan Disinfectant Spray so I bought that,” says Kallie P. “They told me to spray it on the towel and then wipe down the bike and it works great. I've barely made a dent in the bottle and just toss the towels in the laundry. I spray it directly on the mat beneath me too and it makes cleaning the floor easier.”

How To Clean Your Peloton Bike

While we don’t like to think of the ick-factor, over time—and with many sweats, if not cleaned regularly or effectively—your Peloton equipment can get a buildup of dirt and grime, which not only could impact its functionality but also isn’t conducive to a healthy workout environment. That’s where taking a dual approach to cleaning is key. Post-workout cleans should be part of every routine, followed by a monthly deeper clean, to keep your Bike in prime condition.

Here’s how to give your Peloton Bike that post-workout clean:

  1. Dust or dry wipe any high-touch surfaces first to remove any dry debris.

  2. Wipe down your handlebars, seat, and frame using a soft cloth or wipe.

  3. Using a microfiber cloth, wipe clean your touchscreen—avoid spraying any cleaning solution directly onto your screen.

Then, once a month do a deeper clean and general equipment checkup—we’ll show you how, shortly.

How To Clean Peloton Handlebars

Your Peloton Bike/Bike+ handlebars are one of the top high-touch areas where dirt and buildup can accumulate so they’re worthy of their own cleaning moment. You can avoid it getting to that point just by making sure you clean the handlebars after every ride.

To clean your Peloton handlebars, start by dry wiping any dust or dirt from the bars. Then, using your preferred spray, wipe, or damp cloth with warm, mild soapy water, give the bars a good clean. Dry off with a soft towel or cloth, and you’re good to go.

How To Clean Your Peloton Tread

While you can use the same products and cleaning techniques on your Tread/Tread+ as on your Bike, there are a few extra things to know about how to clean your Peloton Tread effectively

  1. Start by gently cleaning the Tread/Tread+ treadmill belt with a handheld vacuum, duster, or microfiber cloth to remove any dry debris. Dust the frame too.

  2. Avoid spraying or pouring liquid directly on your Tread/Tread+ surfaces, use a wipe or cloth dampened with an ammonia-free, cleaning product. Wipe down the belt and frame, paying extra attention to any high-touch areas.

  3. On the Tread+ take care to make sure any liquid doesn’t drip between the slats or into any other opening—this includes water too.

  4. Clean the screen using a microfiber cloth. Never spray any liquid directly onto the screen.

As the Tread+ belt slats are coated in natural rubber, you may notice a distinctive smell at first. This should pass over time, but cleaning the slat belt frequently with a cloth dampened with mild soapy water will help. Just make sure the belt is totally dry before using it.

How To Clean Your Peloton Row

Just like with the Tread and Bike, your Peloton Row also needs some love (and hygiene) to keep it performing well.

1. Make sure you unplug and power off the Row before you start cleaning.

2. Like with the Tread and Bike, harsh chemicals that contain bleach or ammonia are a big no-no for cleaning your Row, as is anything else abrasive. Avoid using lubricants on it too as this can damage it.

3. Vacuum the area under and around the Row regularly, giving it a more thorough cleaning every month.

4. Dust the Row first to remove any dry debris.

5. Using a damp cloth with a mild cleaner or cleaning wipe, gently wipe down visible areas of the Row. Make sure you pay extra attention to high-touch areas too.

6. For a deeper clean, remove the rail from the base and clean along the top and bottom of the track, using a cotton ball to sweep from back to front along the full length of the rail.

How To Clean a Peloton Screen

Cleaning your Peloton Bike, Tread, or Row screen takes a more delicate approach in order to protect the technology. Before cleaning, make sure you shut down your touchscreen by holding down the red button on top of the tablet.

Wipe down the screen using only an ammonia-free cleaner—one that can be used with LCD, Plasma, or other flatscreens, and always use a microfiber cloth.

Avoid spraying anything directly on the screen, instead, spray it onto your cloth then wipe gently with a clean cloth. “I spray Windex on a cloth for the screen,” says Stephanie S. “And, yes, you will be needing to wipe it down, but Power Zone rides and the challenges are so worth it!”

How Often Should I Clean My Peloton?

To keep your Peloton fresh and ready for action, make sure to give it a wipe-down after every workout. Focus on high-touch areas, plus any other areas you’ve come into contact with during your workout. It really should only take a minute or so to clean your Peloton after using it, and this will keep it hygienic and prepped for your next workout. Remind any family member using it to do the same too.

Once a month, give your Peloton some more thorough TLC (tender loving cleaning) and a general equipment checkup.

How To Deep Clean Your Peloton

Cleaning your Peloton on a monthly basis includes everything you’d do on a normal post-workout clean but with a few extras.

  • Always make sure you power off and unplug your Peloton before deeper cleaning.

  • Before powering off the Tread/Tread+ for cleaning, make sure you’ve set the incline to 2% or higher to allow you access to the area underneath the Tread/Tread+ for vacuuming. Cleaning under your Tread is just as important as cleaning the equipment itself.

  • Vacuum the area around your Peloton Bike—and if it sits on a mat, give this a thorough wipe down too

  • Make sure the room you’re working out in is clean and regularly dusted.

  • Give your Peloton a thorough dusting first to remove any dry debris.

  • Clean all the high-touch areas—including handlebars and seat with a wipe or cloth, paying attention to any stubborn areas of buildup.

  • Wipe down the frame, touchscreen, and other low-touch areas.

  • On a Peloton Bike, we recommend that you tighten your seat, pedals and cleats at least once a month.

  • Check power cord for damage.

Keeping good hygiene habits with your Peloton will help you stay on pace both with your fitness and health journey, as well as ensure your equipment stays in shape too.
