How I Describe Peloton to People I’m Trying to Convince to Join Me

Because workouts are always more fun with friends.

It’s easy to meet new people in the incredibly supportive Peloton community. Whether you’re looking for an accountability buddy or lifelong friendship, you’ll find kindred spirits aplenty on the Leaderboard. But if you’re obsessed with the Peloton Bike, Peloton Tread or Peloton App, it goes without saying that you’ll probably also want to share the love with all the family members and friends already in your life. How do you convince them that Peloton is right for them? Our Members weigh in on how they persuade others to join the fun.

You really can squeeze it in, no matter what amount of time you have.”

Member Robin A. from Atlanta is a pro at sneaking Peloton classes into her busy days. She often does standing core while waiting for her kids’ activities to end and has even taken Fit Family classes with her whole family in the parking lot while waiting for carryout. (Pro tip: She keeps resistance bands in her trunk.)

Her experience is proof, she says, that there’s always time for Peloton. She convinced an uncertain friend to start with just a 10-minute class and build up from there.

“There’s an instructor for everyone.”

Kristin W. from Pittsburg jokes that Cody Rigsby is her secret weapon when it comes to persuading others to try Peloton—and honestly, she’s not wrong. “Really the biggest selling point is there is an instructor for everyone,” she says. She has fun figuring out which instructors her friends would like, based on their music preferences and personality. “They are usually all different, which is the beauty of it,” she adds.

“There’s really no excuse not to use it in the comfort of your own home.”

Starting a new workout program—or taking your current one to the next level—can be daunting. But with Peloton, you can learn in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Kristin says this has helped encourage her friends who were intimidated by the thought of working out in a group setting.

Plus, a variety of beginner classes make it easy to try something new. “You can really do this on your own terms and your own time,” says Todd S., a Member from Wilmette, Illinois, who has convinced more than 10 friends to join Peloton. He never thought he’d go much beyond the Peloton Bike, but seeing the library of on-demand classes inspired him to try bootcamps and meditations. “The platform has really opened up my eyes to so many things that I never thought of before,” he adds.

“It will bring us together.”

When the world shut down because of COVID-19, many started making Peloton plans with their friends. Kristin, for example, was supposed to get married in 2020, but was forced to delay her wedding and bachelorette party. So she got creative and talked most of her wedding party into using the Peloton Bike. They started to ride together regularly, and when Kristin eventually got married, they even took a group photo of the Peloton crew. “It was the thing that connected us when we couldn’t be together,” she says.

Similarly, Robin got her sister in Australia to use the Peloton App so they could become long-distance workout buddies. And when the pair recently reunited for the first time in two years in Hawaii, they rode Peloton Bikes together in the hotel.

“Peloton helps me make time for self-care.”

Working out can have loads of physical benefits, but for Member Aimee K. from Brooklyn, New York, it’s about caring for her mental health. “I allow myself, at minimum, 5 minutes a day that are just about me. Prioritizing myself, physically and mentally, has been the biggest gift of the Peloton Bike.”
