Healthcare workers have been going harder than ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began. So it should come as no surprise they’re also supporting each other on and off the Peloton Bike with our Tags feature, which enables Members to connect through live rides and high fives in small social groups.

The #NCHPelo Tag, which is for those who work at Norton's Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, is one of these inspirational groups. The Members cheer each other on as they crush bootcamp, cycling and strength classes at all hours of the day—even using their workouts to raise money for charity. We checked in with the #NCHPelo crew to learn more about how they push each other to be their best selves.

How It Started

Peloton Member Natalie H. launched the tag #NCHPelo in the fall of 2020. What initially began as a way to bond with her coworkers at Norton's Children's Hospital eventually evolved into something much bigger. Today, the group is 114 members strong.

“During the pandemic, working in healthcare has been stressful,” Natalie says. “Peloton became an outlet. One of my colleagues suggested doing a one-month challenge of planning something Peloton-related every day. Now I have not missed a day in almost 365 days. I truly survived being a doctor in the pandemic with Peloton and my #NCHPelo team.”

They Motivate Each Other

“In a year we have all felt isolated, our Norton Children's Hospital Peloton group has brought us together,” says Member Caitlin B. “#NCHPelo is more than a hashtag. It's a chance to give a virtual high five, hold each other accountable and experience a much-needed release from our day-to-day lives. It's incredible to have a community to lean on when you need it the most!”

They're a Team on and off the Bike

After a stressful day at the hospital, recharging with people who understand what you’re going through can be a great way to reset. “Working in the pediatric ICU is one of the hardest, most demanding and emotional yet rewarding aspects of my life,” says Member Mackenzie W. “We work with an exceptional team of doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists to give the best care to the sickest and most vulnerable children in the state. While it's incredibly special, this job is also very draining. Peloton has given us an outlet to release the emotions that come with everyday life in and out of the hospital. The better we care for ourselves, the better we can care for our patients.”

They Pay It Forward

In an effort to give back, the #NCHPelo group has committed to teaming up for local fundraisers on the Bike. “I am so grateful for this community,” says Member Ginny M. “Never in my life would I have thought I would bike 100 miles over two days in January or ride 600 miles together in March to raise $2,000 for a food pantry in our hospital. #NCHPelo has become such a large part of my life, and I am truly grateful for the support of the Peloton community.”

They Ride Together at All Hours

Working long hours can wreak havoc on your workout schedule, but #NCHPelo members often buddy up to ride together, even in the wee hours. “Being a part of a group like this gives me a place to be with others who know what I'm experiencing,” says Member Sara T. “They also understand riding at weird times, like 2 AM, because of the odd shifts we work. Being a part of a community is motivating. Even if you are someone who watches and doesn't post, seeing others do so is a push.”
