An Update on the Peloton Pledge: Announcing Our Global Social Impact Partners
We are excited to share with you, our community, the latest update in service of the Peloton Pledge. Last summer, we announced our four-year, $100M investment in both the fight against racial injustice and inequity, and the promotion of health and well-being for all. As we shared in January, our work has begun from the inside-out—we are pursuing antiracism in our workplace through investments in Learning & Development, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and more. We’re having difficult and important conversations, learning from one another and experts in the field and moving forward in our journey.
Beyond our own workplace, we have an urgent responsibility to use our platform and resources to further positive change in our communities and society at large. That’s why, over the next four years, we will dedicate $20M to community investments and nonprofit partnerships fighting racial injustice.
Today, we are proud to announce our pilot portfolio of global community partnerships.
In the U.S., we are launching partnerships with GirlTrek, The Steve Fund, The Center for Antiracist Research and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). Globally, we are working with Sporting Equals in the United Kingdom, TAIBU Community Health Centre in Canada, and International Psychosocial Organisation (Ipso) in Germany.
Since our inception, Peloton has been powered by community—millions of Members use our platform to connect, bond, inspire and grow stronger together. We believe that the work of antiracism is also rooted in community. Our pilot partners present opportunities for individuals’ self-actualization in their communities—through movement, mental health or both. Through these partnerships, we hope to empower individuals experiencing systemic inequities through physical and mental well-being to be the best versions of themselves.
Each of these partners has created a tangible impact, touching thousands of lives with their work—breaking down systemic barriers to health and wellness. As we welcome them to the Peloton family, we are grateful for the opportunity to co-create initiatives and programs to amplify their work. Together, we are:
Addressing inequity at the root by advancing innovative research on racism’s effects on fitness and mental health.
With The Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University, Peloton will fund a year-long research initiative at the intersection of racial equity and mental health and/or physical fitness. The Center for Antiracist Research was established by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, one of America’s foremost historians and leading antiracist scholars.
Of the investment, Dr. Kendi says, “I am thrilled to see the partnership form between the BU Center for Antiracist Research and Peloton. As someone striving to survive cancer, I know that health and well-being are vital components to living a full life, and we appreciate the journey with Peloton to ensure all people are afforded this right.”
Activating and empowering inclusive communities around fitness, from the Bronx to London.
Peloton will partner with GirlTrek to develop content at the intersection of fitness and Black history to inspire and empower communities of Black women. GirlTrek, the largest public health nonprofit for Black women and girls in the United States, encourages women to use walking as a practical first step to inspire healthy living, families and communities.
In New York City, we are working with LISC, a nonprofit dedicated to closing racial health, wealth and opportunity gaps, and their partner The Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco), a Black-led affordable housing developer and community development organization. WHEDco will activate a new fitness space in their Bronx Commons housing development with Peloton equipment and programming. Together, we will establish a dynamic center for health and wellness, encouraging active living throughout the Bronx.
In the U.K., we will partner with Sporting Equals to expand access to sports and fitness in ethnically diverse communities, ensuring more individuals can benefit from physical activity. Working with a network of grassroots partners, Sporting Equals fosters inclusive communities around a variety of sports including running, cycling, dance and more.
In Canada, Peloton will partner with TAIBU Community Health Centre to support culturally responsive physical activity and mental wellness programs.TAIBU is strengthening the health and well-being of Toronto’s Black and Indigenous communities through healthcare and community development programs.
Investing in the dismantling of systemic barriers to access mental health.
We are working with the Steve Fund, the leading organization in the U.S. focused on promoting the mental health and emotional well-being of young people of color and their families, to develop and deliver educational mental health programming. We will also fund support groups for young women of color at Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) and Peloton’s partner HBCUs.
In Germany, we will partner with the International Psychosocial Organisation (Ipso) to make mental health more accessible to a wider community. Ipso uses an innovative peer-to-peer method to provide culturally sensitive mental health support to migrants and refugees.
We invite you to learn more about each of our partners, and we look forward to updating you as our work progresses, inviting you along on our journey to become a truly antiracist company.
Together we go far.
