The Peloton Tread is your ticket to the best total body workout. From HIIT runs to bootcamp classes, the Tread—which is being widely released in the U.S. for the first time on August 30—makes it easier than ever to crush those fitness goals. Just purchased one? Here are some dos and don’ts to make sure you get the most of every workout.

Do find the perfect space for your Tread. We’ve got some ideas to help you get started in this guide, and you can check the spacing guidelines to make sure your equipment will have enough room. Wherever you choose to put your Tread, make sure it’s on a level surface that’s clear of furniture or other objects.

Do make time for some of our Tread series, such as Saturday 60 with Jess Sims or Thunder 45 with Adrian Williams. And keep an eye on the on-screen target metrics, which can help motivate you during class. Who knew a workout could be so much fun?

Do send out some high fives! On the Leaderboard, simply tap on someone’s username to send them a little encouragement.

Don’t share the Tread Lock passcode with anyone who shouldn’t use the Tread. Here’s how it works: You’ll get an automatic prompt to set a 4-digit passcode on your Tread before you can work out. After 45 seconds of inactivity outside of a class, you’ll have to enter the passcode to start the belt on your Tread. So after every workout, you can have peace of mind knowing your Tread belt is locked.

Don’t be afraid to try a bootcamp class. We know they can sound intimidating, but these workouts—which combine running and strength—are an ultra-effective and motivating method of training for all levels. You can even track your performance with Strive Score, a personal, noncompetitive metric based on your heart rate, measured with a compatible heart rate monitor.

Do know and use your Safety Key. If it becomes detached, the Tread will come to a quick stop, so you can feel safe while you work out. And when you’re done sweating for the day, you’ll want to store the key somewhere out of reach of children.

Do schedule a session with your friends. You can schedule any run or bootcamp class 20 minutes or longer and send an invite to your friends to join you in the class, so you can all get your sweat on together. Or you can hop into any existing Session every five minutes from the on-demand library. Make sure to let those high fives fly!

Do check out scenic workouts when you need a change of pace. You can admire stunning views as you run, while the responsive video and curated playlists encourage you to work up a sweat.

Don’t let children or animals near your Tread at any time. Pro tip: Some Members put up safety gates or move the Tread to a room where pets and little ones cannot access it.

Do join some Tags to connect with fellow Peloton Members. Maybe you’d like to be part of #PelotonRunners or #PelotonNewbies—or perhaps you’d like to start your own Tag! Whatever you’re interested in, there’s a Peloton community for you to dive into.
